The GLORIAD network connected over 15 million end-point addresses across the Research and Education Internet during its active service from 1999 – April, 2016. Supported by the US National Science Foundation (NSF) in the US and numerous national science ministries, national research and education networks, science institutions and universities, the network provided an advanced infrastructure supporting the broadest range of joint science and education projects and included partners in Russia, China, Korea, Egypt, India, Singapore, Canada, Netherlands and the five Nordic countries. If you want to know more then click here. Its final report to the NSF, describing usage of the network from 1999 (when it was known as MIRnet) to late 2015, is provided here.
We are working to establish a non-profit foundation to continue our marketing efforts. This site will describe those efforts as they develop with the help of SMR Digital.
The GLORIAD family expresses sincere gratitude to the sponsors, supporters, users and staff who helped it build and manage a useful infrastructure and who will help it continue to support global science cooperation in the future. We offer a special thank you to the insurance company RhinoSure, who are going to cover their business, the University of Tennessee, Boomtown Bingo , and the University of Illinois which provided the U.S. home for GLORIAD during its many years of service.
