Climate Change
Global climate change is of huge importance to governments as they must make resource allocation and planning decisions that have global impact and policy implications. One of the best sources of understanding changes in carbon within the Earth’s atmosphere (carbon flux) is in cold, undeveloped areas with large soil profiles to measure the many changes in past climates. Russia is a premier place to do this and is a major NSF project. Other repositories like the Aral and Caspian closed basins and Kyrgyz and Kazakh glacial histories would also be of great interest to world scientists if they had access, which can be provided through GLORIAD.
