Volcano/Atmospheric Interactions

Interactions of the atmosphere with the land and water in such classic ways as Siberian volcanoes erupting, filling the atmosphere with aerosols that block the sun slightly, but cause major world weather changes, including El Nino like equatorial drying and fires, crop failures, floods, and many other health problems are just being unraveled as the extent and chemistry of volcanic eruptions in Siberia is being studied through time. As one example, the European summer without a summer when Ben Franklin was negotiating US independence after the Revolutionary War in Europe appears to have been from the eruption of a Russian volcano – how volcanism and weather affect the world is something that the written records of China, the volcanoes of Russia, and the modeling and computation of global climate change may find great synergy using the GLORIAD interaction. Linking human history with Earth history could also greatly assist in motivating students in science and math, providing extraordinary educational programs: following Marco Polo, Alexander the Great, Kengiz Khan, using GLORIAD.
