Project: ATLAS Data Challenge 1 Full Event Simulation and Reconstruction

Description: The atlsim application is used to model the full response of the Atlas detector to monte-carlo-generated events. In April of 2003, 40,000 events were processed using the Globus Toolkit on a number of distributed resources (including some of the DOE Science Grid). The total compute time used was ~3000 cpu hours using 600GB of input data and producing 6GB of output data.

Participants: ANL, LBNL, Boston U., Indiana U., University of Chicago (Fermi Institute; Computation Institute)

Sponsors: GriPhyN, International Virtual Data Grid Laboratory (IVDGL), Particle Physics Data Grid (PPDG), US ATLAS Software and Computing Project

Countries Involved: US, Europe, UK

Tools: GT2 (MDS, GridFTP, GRAM, GSI), Chimera, plans for GT3
