Project: IBM
Description: The Globus Toolkit is available across all IBM systems running AIX or Linux. It gives IBM a comprehensive set of software for security, information infrastructure, resource management, data management, communication, fault detection and portability across a wide array of systems. IBM in 2002 created a Grid division (http://www.ibm.com/grid/) and issued a Redbook about Grid computing (http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/SG246895.html) based on the Globus Toolkit. In addition to its collaboration with the Globus Project, IBM works closely with 35 partners -- including Cisco, Platform Computing and DataSynapse -- which play key roles in helping IBM deploy Grids in the enterprise. IBM has Globus Toolkit-based offerings in the following areas: á Research Collaboration, to enable seamless sharing of large amounts of raw research data among researchers and across disciplines. á Information Accessibility (customized for life sciences, agricultural chemicals and government services), to maximize exploitation of existing data resources and assets. á Engineering Design and Collaboration (customized for the electronics, aerospace and automotive industries), to accelerate collaboration and design processes, reducing time to market. á Analytics Acceleration (customized for life sciences, agriculture and financial services), to improve the use of computing and storage resources across an organization. á Geophysical Processing and Analysis, to help enhance competitiveness and agility for upstream petroleum companies. á IT Optimization (customized for the petroleum and financial services industries), to exploit underutilized compute, storage and human resources. á Grid Innovation Workshop, to help customers understand the value proposition and potential of grid technologies by providing a detailed description of the Grid.
