Research activities on advanced network engineering technologies
Ubiquitous Networking
Many survey reports say the ubiquitous computing will be the one of the most promising technologies in 21st century. By these prospects, KISTI’s supercomputing center is studying the ubiquitous networking technologies which will be the infrastructure of the ubiquitous computing, and mobile grid which might be a class of the ubiquitous computing. We are developing some technologies of ad-hoc networking, regarded as the most suitable wireless/mobile networking for the ubiquitous computing. Now we are focusing on application-specific MAC and routing, and general-purpose web-based monitoring system. And we will develop prototype system implemented by Motes for the tests of ad-hoc networking technologies. We are surveying the supercomputing and grid applications using ad-hoc network. By integrating the prototype system and applications, we will implement the ubiquitous computing testbed (ref. below figure). By doing these studies, we wish to help application scientists carry out the application studies, which could not make in wireline or fixed network because of cost, time, etc..
