Susie Baker
Susie joined the GLORIAD U.S. team in 2006, after many years as a GLORIAD enthusiast and volunteer Research Associate. As Research Leader, she leads management and strategic planning for education, outreach and training; fosters research partnerships; develops case studies; compiles data analyses; and brings foreign affairs expertise to GLORIAD’s projects. Susie also seeks out researchers and potential partners in humanities and social sciences who need high-capacity bandwidth for data analysis or collaborative research projects and encourages scholars, educators and students to join GLORIAD's Center for Digital Humanities and Social Sciences.Susie served as a foreign affairs research analyst at the U.S. Department of State, directing a national research program for American scholars conducting studies on the former Soviet Union and Central and East Europe. She also managed professional training and exchange programs for global citizens in Educational and Cultural Affairs, and implemented nonproliferation assistance programs in Central Asia for the Bureau of Nonproliferation. She served on the Department of Energy’s Working Group for the Russian-American Nuclear Cities Initiative.
In earlier years, Susie taught American Studies and English language at a chemistry magnet high school in St. Petersburg, Russia, and managed the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Program for secondary school students in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Susie also leads the Cosmonauts Club, a Russian-language science, technology and arts enrichment program for K-12 students. Susie has a B.A. in Economics from the University of California at Davis, and an M.A. in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Oregon.
