Fusion Energy/ITER

The advanced capabilities for GLORIAD will enable the fusion energy science community from around the world to remotely operate and participate in experiments and ITER simulations, and in the eventual ITER reactor when built. The benefits to the ITER program of a jointly developed, highly advanced infrastructure include the ability to: cooperatively control experiments and operations via collaborative and virtual control facilities; and, share expensive and scarce resources such as computational devices, databases and data archiving centers. The ITER community is one of the primary science communities to be supported by GLORIAD. All the nations partnering in GLORIAD share a stake in ITER development activities; the US Department of Energy (DOE) named ITER the number one science priority for 2004.
